The Chinese playmaker is already a national hero after scoring the historic goal that sent the team to the finals for the first time in the 1-0 qualifying victory over Oman.
He should be a key figure for the squad in this summer's showpiece owing to his handy goalscoring knack as a midfielder.
An ability to fill in and support his fellow strikers derived from the fact he is the top scorer at his domestic club Tianjin Taida.
This talent has attracted the interest of leading Uruguayan sides Nacional and Penarol, both of whom have cast their eye over him during a trial tour the player made to South America in 2001.
However, for the time being he remains a Tianjin Taida player and his focus is now fully on the World Cup, despite a recent injury scare where he strained a muscle.
Happily for the player, he will have recovered from this minor niggle in time to face Costa Rica on June 4.
