Patrick Mboma - fearsome striker (Allsport).
PATRICK MBOMA
Position: Forward
Born: 15.11.70
Club: Cagliari
Patrick Mboma was African Player of the Year in 2000 and should be one of the shooting stars of this summer's World Cup finals.
Born in Cameroon but emigrated to France at an early age, and began his professional career there.
Failed to cut the mustard at PSG, but eventually carved out a career on loan in the lower divisions.
Also had a spell in Japan's J League before finding real stardom in Italy's Serie A.
Joined Sardinian outfit Cagliari after playing for Cameroon in the 1998 World Cup finals in France.
Was impressive for the island team over the next two seasons, proving a real handful for some big-name defenders.
His skills won him a move to AC Parma in the summer of 2000.
Since then he has gone from strength to strength and was the joint top-scorer at the recent African Nations tournament, where his three goals took Cameroon to victory.
Strong player who is good in the air but surprisingly nimble on the ground.
Premiership fans will be familiar with the name following his spell on loan at Sunderland this season.
And Mboma is not somebody defenders will relish playing against in the Far East, and also has vital experience of the region.
