Picture Palencia - tough for defenders to pick up. (Allsport)

FRANCISCO PALENCIA

Position: Forward
Born: 28.04.73
Club: Espanyol

Francisco Palencia's partnership with Cuauhtemoc Blanco was one of the driving forces as Mexico booked their place at the World Cup.

Palencia, who boasts an impressive goals-to-games ratio throughout his career, netted in the 3-0 victory over Honduras to round of a sound qualifying campaign.

He has already become a big hit with Espanyol fans since joining them on loan from Cruz Azul last season and will be hoping his understanding with Blanco can shoot Mexico to success in Japan and Korea.

Palencia is a useful player during the build-up, but also has a good eye for goal as he proved against Honduras.

His strong-running is a major asset and his ability to drop deep makes him tough for defences to pick up.
