JOSE LUIS CHILAVERT
Position: Goalkeeper
Born: 27.07.65
Club: Racing Strasbourg
Most goalkeepers are usually branded flamboyant - but that summing up just doesn't do justice to Jose Luis Chilavert.
Chilavert is the national keeper with over 50 goals to his name and a notoriously short temper.
But - and this is what most people seem to forget - he's also a highly-rated number one.
Let's start with the goals.
Chilavert hit the net four times in qualifying with two penalties and two free-kicks and is now looking to open his World Cup account - insisting he takes more than 100 free-kicks every day.
But the madcap Paraguayan will miss the first match in Japan and Korea after spitting at Brazilian wing-back Roberto Carlos during a qualifier in August.
And that is just the latest incident in his chequered career. He has been smoke-bombed twice on the pitch, boycotted the Copa America when it was staged in his own country and has accused a rival manager of being drunk at a match.
But when he concentrates on his game, Chilavert is a superb shot-stopper with the necessary bravery to be a world-class keeper.
Indeed, he boasts an impressive list of medals during his career - including the Argentine title, Copa Libertadores and Toyota Cup - which started when he was just 15 with Sportivo Luqueno.
And the veteran keeper has also been named World Goalkeeper of the Year in a career which has seen him play in both South America and Europe.
But now he craves some international success in what will probably turn out to be his international swansong.
