Picture Blanco - known for his 'kangaroo hop'. (Allsport)

CUAUHTEMOC BLANCO

Position: Forward
Born: 17.01.73
Club: Real Valladolid

When Cuauhtemoc Blanco eventually hangs up his boots, he will be remembered for just one thing.

His trademark 'kangaroo hop', where he traps the ball between his feet and skips past rivals, has amused fans and commentators alike around the world, but there is more to the 29-year-old than just one fancy trick.

Blanco has carved out a reputation as a big-game player with the ability to inspire his team when it really matters.

His man-of-the-match performance against Honduras was crucial in Mexico's passage to Japan and Korea, while he has already opened his World Cup account with a strike against Belgium in the 1998 Finals.

And in club football arguably the Mexican's best performance for Real Valladolid came against the might of Real Madrid, with Blanco firing home a marvellous free-kick to cap a superb all-round performance.

Prior to moving to Spain, Blanco plied his trade with America de Mexico but the powerful striker could not resist the lure of Europe and - injuries apart - he has been a major success as he will hope to be in the World Cup.
