Picture Beschastnykh - fell out with Santander coach. (Allsport)

VLADIMIR BESCHASTNYKH

Position: Forward
Born: 01.04.74
Club: Spartak Moscow

With seven goals in qualifying to his name, Vladimir Beschastnykh is the man Russia will be looking to for goals at the World Cup.

The pacy frontman opened his account in the first game of qualifying - against Switzerland - and closed out the campaign with a brilliant hat-trick against the same opponents.

All this from a man who had been frozen out of Racing Santander after falling out with coach Gustavo Benitez.

Eventually, after being forced to wait for his contract to expire Beschastnykh returned to Spartak Moscow, where he had started his career.

National coach Oleg Romantsev is also his club boss and the man who gets the best out of him.

Expect hard-working performances from Beschastnykh - who is equally at home either facing, or with his back to, goal.
