Dmitri Khokhlov emerged as one of the stars of the Russian World Cup qualifying campaign and has become the national side's jack of all trades.
Khokhlov usually plays as a midfielder at club level, but spent the early part of his international career at right-back.
But coach Oleg Romantsev fielded him as a striker for much of qualifying - with reasonable success.
The Real Sociedad man netted twice in the campaign and provided valuable support to Vladimir Beschastnykh.
Khokhlov started out in football back in 1993 with CSKA Moscow before joining Torpedo Moscow in 1997 and then moving on to PSV Eindhoven.
The big break in his career, though, came in December 1999 when Real Sociedad paid £3million to take him to the Primera Liga.
Since then Khokhlov has impressed for the Spanish side, chipping in with valuable goals from midfield - something he has now perfected at international level as well.
His versatility makes him a key member of the Russian squad and means he is rarely out of the starting line-up.
