Ian Harte - dangerous at free-kicks (Allsport).
IAN HARTE
Position: Defender
Born: 31.08.77
Club: Leeds United Cultured left-back who is now a fixture for the Republic.
Dead ball wizard who adds attacking flair to his defensive skills.
Is dangerous anywhere near opposing penalty boxes with his superb left-footed free-kicks, and also takes the penalties for good measure.
His crosses are also difficult to defend against, and complete a superb all-round package.
If Harte has a weakness it's defensively, and he had his troubles early in the season.
Was dropped by Leeds after one high-profile nightmare at the hands of Newcastle's Nolberto Solano, and is sometimes found lacking for pace against quicker wingers.
For all that though, his talent further forward makes him a vital man for club and country.
A one-club man for Leeds, and is the nephew Elland Road and Republic ace Gary Kelly.
Has been under pressure for his place at club level from former Liverpool man Dominic Matteo, but has fought off challenges in the past.
Versatile player who has appeared at centre-half for the Republic when required, but left-back is undoubtedly his best position.
Netted from the spot in the Republic's 2-0 play-off first leg win over Iran at Lansdowne Road.
