Robbie Fowler - great goalscorer (Allsport).
ROBBIE FOWLER
Position: Forward
Born: 09.04.75
Club: Leeds United
When Robbie Fowler left Liverpool for Leeds United late last year he didn't just move from one Premiership club to another.
Fowler's surprise £11million switch from Anfield across the Pennines may have saved his World Cup hopes.
Until then Fowler was becoming increasingly surplus to requirements on Merseyside - third or fourth choice striker depending on who you believe.
So though it might have taken a lot of soul-searching to cut his ties with his adoring Anfield faithful, Fowler must now feel he made the right decision.
Often referred to as England's best natural goalscorer, Fowler immediately set about proving his quality with a flurry of early goals at Leeds.
A double against Everton and a hat-trick against Bolton made him a quick hit with the Elland Road fans.
And it's easy to see why Leeds boss David O'Leary regards the Toxteth terror as a steal - even at £11million.
The man has a wand for a left foot, great awareness and the priceless ability to finish lethally.
Fowler won his first England cap in the Wembley friendly against Bulgaria in 1996 and notched his first England goal against Mexico almost exactly a year later, again at Wembley.
Since then he has struggled to win a regular starting spot for his country.
But much of that is due to the injuries which meant his career has been stop-start in recent yeras.
A serious ankle injury in particular caused him concerns, but now he seems to be back fully fit and in good form.
When he's on form there is no better striker in Britain - he just has to stay fit.
Fowler first announced his arrival on the Anfield scene with five goals as a youngster in a League Cup tie against Fulham.
Since then scoring goals has come easy for him - he plundered more than 100 for Liverpool in the league.
And more like the beauty he grabbed in England's qualifying win over Albania last September will do nicely for Sven-Goran Eriksson this summer.
