Sheringham celebrates against Greece (Allsport).
TEDDY SHERINGHAM
Position: Forward
Born: 02.04.66
Club: Tottenham Hotspur Teddy Sheringham has been something of a lucky charm for club and country in recent years - and could be again in the Far East this summer.
Despite his advancing years Sheringham (who will be 36 when the finals begin) looks to have a great chance of figuring in Eriksson's side because the Swede has no other players of his type.
Sheringham's game has never relied on pace - and that's why he's still such a potent force now.
His superb all-round game makes him the perfect centre-forward.
He is one of the most intelligent players in the English game - combining great awareness, strength, technical excellence and superb finishing.
First hit the headlines when forming a lethal partnership with Tony Cascarino that propelled Millwall into the top flight.
That earned him moves to Nottingham Forest, and then Spurs.
First became an England star under Terry Venables, and had a great Euro 96 when he and Alan Shearer were the tournament's best strike partnership.
Joined Manchester United in 1997 for a bargain £3.5million, and struggled at first to win over the Old Trafford faithful.
But his place in United folklore was assured in May 1999 when he came off the bench to score crucial goals in the FA Cup and Champions League finals in the Treble success.
Followed that up by becoming PFA Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year in 2000-2001, showing that age wasn't eroding his skills.
Somewhat surprisingly decided to leave Old Trafford last summer to rejoin Spurs - and has been a key man in their renaissance under Glenn Hoddle.
Still a key man for England too, as he proved when scoring with his first touch as a sub in the crucial qualifying draw with Greece.
Seems certain to figure strongly in the summer, and probably will do until England can find someone to replace him.
Could be the perfect foil for Michael Owen.
