Ashley Cole - brilliant young talent (Allsport).
ASHLEY COLE
Position: Defender
Born: 20.12.80
Club: Arsenal At the beginning of the 2000-2001 season Ashley Cole probably wasn't even dreaming of a first-team berth at Highbury.
But after a meteoric rise to prominence he ended it as first choice for both club and country.
Fast, skilful player who has a great left foot and loves to get forward.
Has shown maturity way beyond his years in starring at Premiership, Champions League and international level in the past 12 months.
Was voted the Carling Young Player of the Season after his first term in the Gunners first team.
And that was thoroughly deserved for a player who is the answer to England's worries at left-back.
His adventurous attacking play has made him a real favourite at Highbury, but he needs to improve the defensive side of his game at international level.
Is learning fast but is occasionally found wanting positionally against top-class opposition.
Now playing regular Champions League football - something that can only improve his game.
Has all the ability in the world, and should be a fixture in the England team for years to come.
Showed he had an old head on young shoulders when making his England debut in the hostile environment of Tirana in a World Cup qualifier in March last year.
Came through well as England beat Albania 3-1.
