Montero is a defender for whom the term `rugged' could have been made for.
An aggressive player at the best of times, Montero often finds himself in trouble with referees.
But that is just one aspect of his game, and the Juventus captain is also a fine defender who is considered one of the best in the world.
Montero started his career with Penarol, but after one season with them moved to Atalanta.
After four seasons there Juve moved in, and since then he has been a regular first-team player.
At the start of this season Montero had clocked up well over 100 appearances for the 'bianconeri' – but had failed to score a goal.
As Montero goes into his first World Cup he has a good role model - his father played in two World Cups as well as starring for Uruguayan club side Nacional.
