Picture Marc Wilmots - thrives on pressure. (Allsport)

MARC WILMOTS

Position: Midfield
Born: 22.02.69
Club: Schalke 04

Marc Wilmots is the man charged with the responsibility of leading Belgium into their sixth successive World Cup finals.

With over 60 caps in his collection, Wilmots is the most experienced Belgian player in their squad after breaking into the national team in May 1990.

During that time Wilmots has netted more than 20 goals breaking forward from midfield, an impressive total for a man of advancing years.

But it is no surprise he has scored that many times as Wilmots is a big-game player both domestically and internationally.

He was the man who took responsibility when the Belgians were awarded a penalty in their World Cup qualifying play-off in the Czech Republic, as he was when Schalke went to a penalty shoot-out in the 1997 UEFA Cup final.

Wilmots thrives on the pressure associated with big matches and his tough-tackling style make him a menacing opponent for even the best midfielders in the world.
