Thomas Helveg may feel he has something to prove going into the World Cup.
The last time the AC Milan defender appeared on the big stage - at Euro 2000 - he looked off the pace after spending much of the season out with injuries.
However, the classy centre-back has been back to his dominant best recently and will hope to have a big influence in the Far East.
Helveg has been with Milan since 1998 and played a pivotal role in their Serie A title-winning campaign the following year.
He has gone on to be regular in both Serie A and the Champions League as well as making over 50 appearances for the national side.
The Danish defence is built around Helveg's experience and ability and his versatility - he is equally happy playing at right-back or in midfield - makes him a vital member of the squad.
