Despite still being in his early 20s, Walter Ayovi has seen more than his fair share of controversy.

The young Ecuadorian has already served a six-month suspension from the game after a false-age scandal when he appeared in the South American Under-20 tournament despite being over age.

He had been one of the stars of the tournament as Walter Corozo, but it was later revealed that Walter Lucio Corozo Almant - supposedly born in 1982 - was actually Walter Hernan Ayovi Corozo, three years older.

But Ayovi has since put the ban firmly behind him and has bounced back in style with club side Emelec to become the hottest youngster in Ecuadorian football.

He can play at either full-back or in midfield and brings a left-sided presence - and tremendous shot - to the national team.

He also possesses the ability to beat defenders with his pace, has good close control and is a good marker.

Ayovi is now keen to make the move into the big-time with a move to Europe and the World Cup gives him the perfect platform to do just that.
