Was one of the discoveries of the tournament at Euro 96 and has been a regular member of the international side since. Remembered by British audiences for his initial impact for Croatia, he again impressed with his goalscoring exploits in France 98. At domestic level he progressed from NK Osijec, NK Hask Gradjanski and Padova in Serie A to join Valencia in 1997. He had limited impact in Spain, playing only six minutes in his club's march to the 2000 Champions League final, but remained a potent threat whenever on the field. In 2000 he decided to cut his losses and join Greek giants Panathinaikos and he has been a central figure in their campaign since. He remains a threat at international level too, scoring twice against San Marino as Croatia qualified for the finals.
