  CROATIA
Picture Robert Prosinecki - still a brilliant talent (Allsport).

ROBERT PROSINECKI

Position: Midfield
Born: 01.12.69
Club: Grampus Eight

A brilliant playmaker who has seen service with some of Europe's major clubs including Real Madrid.

It came as a major surprise when he decided to join Division One Portsmouth last summer but his impressive form soon caught the eye.

And despite playing in Nationwide One he was still attracting interest from the likes of Bayern Munich.

He eventually left Fratton Park for Grampus Eight the day after the season ended - and will hope to use the World Cup to show his new fans what they can expect.

Prosinecki may no longer be playing his domestic football at the highest level - but he remains a potent threat on the international stage.

He has to provide the service for Croatia's highly-rated strikers in the months ahead - a task he will relish.

Not always the most energetic of players, but his ability on the ball is second to none.

Possibly his country's greatest ever player.

A member of the brilliant Red Star Belgrade team that won the European Cup by beating Marseille in a penalty shootout in 1991.
