Picture Jarni - experienced Croatian defender. (Allsport)

ROBERT JARNI

Position: Defender
Born: 26.10.68
Club: Las Palmas

Robert Jarni is one of the few survivors from the golden generation of Croatian players who is likely to be part of their squad in the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals.

It will be his third World Cup tournament after appearing for Yugoslavia in 1990 and Croatia in 1998.

Jarni remains one of the fastest defenders in Europe despite his advancing years and is currently playing with Las Palmas, having had previous spells with Juventus, Torino Calcio, Real Madrid and Real Betis.

He has had problems with Las Palmas of late and was on the verge of joining Manchester City in November before that proposed deal fell through.

However he settled his differences with the Spainish club shortly afterwards and is concentrating on peaking for the summer finals.

Has a wonderful left foot, and is always a danger from dead balls. Likes to get forward as much as possible.
