Suker - retires at end of tournament. (Allsport)
DAVOR SUKER
Position: Forward
Born: 01.01.68
Club: 1860 Munich
A legend of European football and Real Madrid's record scorer with 110 goals from 220 appearances. He is also a record-breaker at international level and is Croatia's leading all-time goalscorer. Suker picked up the Golden Boot at the 1998 World Cup with six goals.
Later brought his expansive talents to the Premiership with Arsenal, and later West Ham. But despite promising starts with both it never really worked for Suker in England. The signs were that following his release from Upton Park during the summer that Suker's career was over. However he was adamant he would play on until the World Cup and in November he was given the chance to do so by 1860 Munich. Suker has targeted the World Cup finals as the ideal finale to his career and no-one would begrudge this great striker another spell in the limelight. Is one of the all-time greats when it comes to finishing, and has a wonderful left foot.
Was also great for Croatia in Euro 1996 when he famously chipped a wonder goal over Danish goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel.
Also picked up a Champions League winner's medal with Real Madrid in 1998.
