More than a few eyebrows were raised when Liverpool signed Jerzy Dudek last year, but people should have known better than to doubt Gerard Houllier.
Dudek has been a revelation since moving to Anfield to cap a magnificent year for the custodian in which he was also linked with a move to Arsenal.
His performances for Feyenoord, the national team and latterly Liverpool earned him the Polish Player of the Year award for 2001.
Dudek is a tremendous shot-stopper, looks confident on crosses and is brave in one-on-one situations - just some of the attributes that led to Leo Beenhakker describing him as "the best goalkeeper I've seen in 30 years".
