Picture Foe - strong presence in midfield (Allsport).

MARC-VIVIEN FOE

Position: Midfield
Born: 01.05.75
Club: Lyon

Marc-Vivien Foe is the colossus who provides a huge physical presence in the Cameroon midfield.

Will be hoping to figure in the Far East after missing out on the 1998 finals in France.

Broke his leg just before that tournament and had to watch from the sidelines.

That injury brought double heartache for Foe, as it also cost him a big-money move to Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson was all ready to bring Foe to Old Trafford in a big-money move, but the transfer was never resurrected once Foe fought his way back to fitness.

The tough midfielder did eventually find his way to the Premiership, joining West Ham United in 1999.

Did have his moments at Upton Park, and impressed with his strength and touch, but looked to lack pace at times.

Moved back to France after a short stay in East London, joining Lyon for around £6million.

That represented a nice profit for the Hammers, and gave Foe the chance to once again play in a league more suited to his undoubted talents.

A key man as Cameroon won the African Nations Cup earlier this year, Foe scored in the semi-final victory over Mali. After what happened in 1998 he deserves to have a good tournament this time round.
