Matias Almeyda is a hard-working midfielder with a crunching tackle.
He has the stamina levels to live with the best throughout 90 minutes.
Parma's slip in the Italian pecking order has not affected his international career.
Instead he became a regular in Marcelo Bielsa's line-up in the latter half of the qualifying campaign for this summer's finals in the Far East.
Was previously another Argentine to play under Sven-Goran Eriksson at Lazio where he won the Italian League and Cup double in 1999/2000.
Was sold to Parma as part of the deal which took international team-mate Hernan Crespo in the opposite direction.
Having already been to World Cup finals four years ago, this could well be his swansong tournament. He has reportedly talked of retirement and a return to his native Argentina.
