Club: Lazio Diego Simeone adds the grit factor to the Argentina midfield.
A player with a tough-tackling reputation, he is a dogged competitor and he has been rewarded for his never-say-die attitude by becoming his country's most-capped midfielder.
There is certainly much more to Simeone than the hated figure seen by England fans during France 98, when he was the player on the receiving end of David Beckham's boot.
His strength is on the defensive side of the game, but Simeone is quite capable of getting forward to link up with the attack as well.
A highly-experienced midfielder, Simeone will be going to his third World Cup. He has also done much during his club career.
After playing for Pisa and Seville, Simeone starred for Atletico Madrid as they won the Spanish League in the mid-90s.
He then moved on to Inter Milan, winning the UEFA Cup with the San Siro side, and then to Lazio where the Italian League and Cup double was won under Sven-Goran Eriksson's leadership.
A vital cog in the national side in recent years, expect him to dominate midfields in Korea and Japan.
