QUINTON FORTUNE
Position: Midfield
Born: 21.05.77
Club: Manchester United
Quinton Fortune left his native South Africa at the age of 14 to try and secure a contract with a European club, but after spending several years on Spurs' books, he left the London club in 1995 and signed for Atletico Madrid.
He was spotted by a South African coach whilst playing for Atletico's 'B' team and was given a place in the national side, making his debut in September 1996 against Kenya.
As a result of his solid international performances, Fortune was signed by Manchester United for £1.5 million as cover for Ryan Giggs on the left wing and he has been a fringe player for the Red Devils ever since.
He made an immediate impact at United, scoring four goals for the Old Trafford outfit in the 2000 World Club Championship.
His crossing ability and passing have been praised by many an expert, although he had a disappointing African Nations Cup.
Missed a penalty in the draw with Ghana before crashing out in the quarter-finals and returning to Manchester.
Will have to be on top form to provide the ammunition for Shaun Bartlett and Benni McCarthy.
