Armando Gonçalves Teixeira, as 'Petit' is also known, plays a David Batty-like role in midfield, sitting just in front of the back four.
It is a protecting role he has perfected at Boavista who he helped to the Portuguese title in 2000/2001 and then began plying his trade in the Champions League last term.
It was Petit's performances during that title-winning season that elevated him to the national side and he won his first cap last summer in the qualifier in Dublin.
He has not looked back since, playing in all the remaining qualifying matches as Portugal won their group ahead of the Irish.
Has a habit of picking up yellow cards due to his tough-tackling approach.
