NUNO GOMES
Position: Forward
Born: 05.07.76
Club: Fiorentina
Nuno Gomes proved an invaluable super sub during Portugal's impressive qualifying campaign.
The Fiorentina front man netted seven times - including four in one game against Andorra - despite only starting one of his country's matches.
It was that sort of form that attracted interest from a whole host of clubs last season, including reportedly Liverpool and Arsenal, when it was announced that Fiorentina were on the verge of bankruptcy.
Was one of several Portuguese internationals on the move after starring at Euro 2000, joining Serie A from Benfica. He has also played for Boavista in Portugal where he was always among the leading scorers.
A pacy attacker, Gomes burst on to the international scene at Euro 2000 when he scored four goals in Portugal's five games, including the winner against England and one in the semi-final against the French.
Blotted his copybook by picking up a lengthy international ban for constantly arguing with the referee after that semi-final loss.
Still, he is exactly the sort of player tiring defences will not want to have to deal with if he comes on fresh in the closing stages of a match.
