Jeff Agoos is a veteran of the US National set-up and has played for the U.S. Under-15, Under-17, Under-20, Olympic, World University and Senior teams.
He made his senior debut against Guatemala in January 1988 and his consistent play saw him play at various levels for the US and he became first choice left back in 1993.
Agoos has his heart set on playing in the World Cup in his home country in 1994, but unfortunately, he was left out of the 22 man squad. Agoos took this decision badly and burned his training kit hours after the squad was announced.
Nevertheless, he wasn't going to let this set-back ruin his career. He trained hard (in the new training gear he had to buy) and became one of the most improved players in the US in 1996, starring in thirteen international matches.
This consistency and dedication did not go unnoticed and Agoos was made captain in 1997 and has lead his team on a number of occasions, notably during the US Cups of 1997 and 1999.
In 2000, he became only the fifth player in National team history to represent the US on 100 occasions and played every minute of the US' Olympic campaign.
Despite his advancing years, Agoos is still an important player for the US and coach Bruce Arena is aware that his experience and versatility make him almost indispensible.
