Brad Friedel is the second most-capped goalkeeper in US history and he will be familiar to followers of the English Premiership, having joined Liverpool in December 1997 and is now currently playing for Blackburn Rovers.
Friedel made his first appearance for the US senior team against Canada in September 1992 and has been in and out of the team ever since. He was understudy to Tony Meola for the World Cup in 1994 and was a key player for the US when they earned qualification for the 1998 World Cup.
His first taste of World Cup action came in 1998 when he played in the US' 1-0 defeat at the hands of Yugoslavia. Unfortunately, his country were to go out at the first group stage.
Friedel has been an integral part of the US' qualification, sharing the number one jersey with Kasey Keller and looks sure to be an important member of Bruce Arena'a World Cup squad.
