Luis Figo proved himself one of the major stars of world football with some sublime performances at Euro 2000.
Figo, who was first capped in 1991, helped his country to the semi-finals of the tournament before they bowed out to eventual winners France.
As well as his superb skills, the 29-year-old will be remembered by England fans for thumping home from 30 yards as Portugal fought back from 2-0 down tobeat the English in their first match of the tournament.
Figo was voted European Footballer of the Year for 2000 after his displays of that summer.
It was also that summer that Figo completed his controversial switch from Barcelona - the club he had joined from childhood love Sporting Lisbon - to their arch rivals Real Madrid.
The transfer fee was a then-world record of £38 million.
Will be hoping to take his country a step further than fellow Portuguese great Eusebio did in 1966 when Portugal finished third.
