Picture Inzaghi - seven goals in qualifying (Allsport)

FILIPPO INZAGHI

Position: Forward
Born: 09.08.73
Club: AC Milan

Filippo, or Pippo as he became known during a successful spell at Juventus, is a tireless worker up front and a reliable goalscorer.

Not the biggest of men but more than makes up for his lack of power with excellent touch and awareness around the box.

Inzaghi made his Serie A debut with Parma in 1995 but moved to Atalanta where he finished as the league's top scorer in 1996-97 season with 22 goals.

He then joined Juventus in the summer of 1997 and has continued to be one of the top strikers in Serie A.

Finally left Turin in the summer of 2001 to join AC Milan.

A player blessed with a good football brain, Inzaghi makes excellent runs off the ball, creating space for others as well as himself.

Scored twice against Manchester United in the 1999 Champions' League semi-final second leg.

More recently two goals in Italy's first qualifying game in Hungary earned his team a draw, while he also scored another five during the tournament, giving him seven goals from just five games.

Early in his career Inzaghi's future was in doubt due to his physique, or lack of it.

Hard work and effort has helped him reach the top though.
