ANTHEUNIS HANDED BELGIUM POST
Aime Antheunis has been named as the new coach of Belgium.
He replaces Robert Waseige, who stepped down following the World Cup, where the Red Devils went out at the second round stage to Brazil.
Waseige has since taken over at Standard Liege.
Antheunis, who has signed a two-year contract, is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in Belgium after a successful career at club level.
He came to prominence with Genk where he won the Belgian Cup in 1998 and the league title a year later.
A move to Anderlecht followed where he won two more league titles to complete a run of three in a row.
Last year was a disappointment, though, as Anderlecht stumbled in the league and crashed out of the Champions League at the first group stage.
Anderlecht are expected to replace Antheunis with Hugo Broos.
Broos has agreed a deal with the Brussels club with the two parties expected to put pen to paper next week.
"It will be a big challenge for me," Antheunis admitted.
"These three years at Anderlecht have been good for me, and I can walk out with dignity. I have made my choice now and will put 100% of my efforts in it.
"Now I will need a few days to get acquainted with the structure of the association. Then I start from scratch and try to surround myself with the best people possible.
"As far as Anderlecht are concerned I wish Hugo Broos all the best. I can say to him that the fire is still burning there. He merely has to stoke the coals a bit."
