Anderlecht have given the clearest signal
yet that coach Aime Anthuenis is set to leave to take over as Belgian national
team boss by offering current Excelsior Mouscron coach Hugo Broos a contract to
take over at the Constant Vanden Stock stadium.
Anthuenis has been in negotiations with the Belgian FA (KBVB) this week about
the national team job and a decision either way is expected on Saturday.
If Anthuenis decides to leave Anderlecht, Broos can take up the offer of a
two-year contract at the Brussels club after both parties reached a compensation
agreement.
Anderlecht will have to pay Mouscron compensation amounting to the remainder
of Broos' contract at Mouscron.
Broos, who is contracted to Mouscron until 2006 and was prohibited by the
club's board from entering into negotiations with the KBVB for the Belgium job,
has been offered a deal for two seasons, with an option on a third.
Anderlecht general manager Michel Verscheren said: "[Mouscron president]
Jean-Pierre Detremmerie told me that as far as Broos coming to Anderlecht goes:
'I accept'."
Anthuenis is not worried that he may be forced out of the club, even if he does not get the Belgium job.
"I won't be manipulated. The fact that Anderlecht has talked to Broos, doesn't worry me, it seems logical," said Anthuenis.
"Anderlecht has notified me of the fact that the [Belgian Football] Association was interested in me, and I agreed to talk to them. If my club wants to play open cards, I have no problems with it whatsoever. And again, becoming national coach would be a challenge for me, that I won't deny."
