FIFA have handed Mexico captain Rafael Marquez a four-match ban for his sending off during his side's World Cup second round clash against the United States.

Defender Marquez, who also receives an 8000 CHF fine (£3500), was shown a straight red card for a flying headbutt on Cobi Jones in the United States' 2-0 win.

FIFA's disciplinary committee have also punished Paraguay's Roberto Acuna for his dismissal in their second round match against Germany, suspending the midfielder for two games and fining him 5000 CHF (£2200).

The bans will have to be served in competitive matches at continental level.
