Danish coach Richard Moller Nielsen has
reacted warmly to reports linking him with the vacant coaching job for the
Russian national team.
Moller Nielsen, who will be replaced by Avraham Grant as Israel coach when his
contract runs out on July 1, has been tipped as successor to Oleg Romantsev, who
stepped down following Russia's poor performance in the World Cup finals.
The Russians crashed out of the group stage after suffering defeats against
Japan and Belgium.
And Nielsen, who guided Denmark to the 1992 European Championship, has
welcomed the rumours linking him with the Russia post.
"There are many good players in Russia but they have had a hard time in
achieving good results, and it could be exiting to try and change that," Moller
Nielsen told Ekstra Bladet.
Moller Nielsen stresses that he has not had an official approach from the
Russia FA but added: "It has always been like this. I get an offer and I listen
to it, and I will also do that if the Russians contact me.
"Right now I'm calm about it. When you have a certain name, you are always
connected to several jobs and of course some offers can't be rejected."
The other names linked with the job are former Norway coach Egil Olsen,
Italian duo Dino Zoff and Marco Tardelli, and Moller Nielsen's replacement as
Danish national coach, the Swede coach Bo Johansson.
