Engel - quit after a disappointing World Cup (Allsport)
POLES PREPARE FOR NEW MAN
Poland are to announce who Jerzy Engel's successor as
national team coach will be on July 15.
Engel was fired after his team performed poorly at the World Cup.
Defeats in their opening games against Korea and Portugal eliminated the
Poles.
There are four possible candidates for the post in Ples Dariusz Wdowczyk,
Henryk Wojciech Kasperczak and Stefan Majewski, and Czech Werna Liczka.
Licka, who coached Polonia Warsaw last season but is currently coaching the
Czech Under-21 side, is the front runner according to the Polish press and he
has stated publicly he would accept the job if offered it.
The other men in the frame are former Celtic defender Wdowczyk, who is
currently the coach at Widzew Lsdz, the experienced Kasperczak, contracted to
Wisla Krakow until 2005 and Majewski, a former Amica Wronki and Zaglebie Lubin
coach.
