Former France captain Didier Deschamps has ruled
himself out of the running to replace national team boss Roger Lemerre.
Lemerre is widely expected to hand in his resignation on July 5 when he meets
with the French football federation to further discuss Les Bleus' early exit
from the World Cup.
Under-21 boss Raymond Domenech, Liverpool chief Gerard Houllier and Arsene
Wenger of Arsenal have all be touted as potential successors.
But the former Juventus legend Deschamps, who took his first coaching job with
Monaco last season, feels he is not yet ready to take over Les Bleus.
He told television station Infosport: "I don't feel like coaching the French
team now, I am not asking for the role.
"At the moment I am fully concentrated on Monaco, this is most important for
me.
"I will maybe see in the future but this is definitely not on the agenda
right now."
Lemerre met FFF bosses last Friday and was given until early July to decide
whether he wants to see out the remainder of his deal, which expires in June
2004.
France, the defending champions, suffered a premature elimination in Japan and
South Korea, after collecting just one point and failing to score a single
goal.
They were beaten by surprise package Senegal and Denmark, and could only draw
with Uruguay.
