Genk's Belgian international striker Wesley
Sonck has played down speculation linking him with a move away from the club.
The Belgian Player of the Year, who scored against Russia in the group stage
of the World Cup finals, has been the subject of many rumours after a prolific
season for the Jupiler League champions.
Sonck scooped the golden boot award in Belgium after netting 30 times for his
club in the league and forcing his way onto the international scene, prompting
interest from English Premiership outfit Sunderland.
The former Germinal Beerschot man failed to start any of his country's matches
in the Far East after doubts over his fitness following injury, but potential
suitors have been warned away by the 23-year-old.
"At the moment a transfer is out of the question," he said. "What you are
hearing is nothing more than rumour."
Sonck admitted that he was disappointed not to have been given more of a
starring role for the Red Devils at the finals, as Robert Waseige's men
eventually crashed out to Brazil after a 2-0 defeat in the second round.
"I had expected to start at least one match," he added.
"I felt even stronger than during the season with Genk. If you have watched
me come into the games, you have to agree with me."
Sonck now looks forward to a well-earned holiday ahead of the new season and
Champions League football.
Genk face a two-legged third qualifying round tie for a place in the lucrative
group stages.
