Midfielder Sebastian Kehl is hoping to get a
starting place in Germany's side for the quarter-final against the USA on Friday
after impressing in his World Cup debut against Paraguay.
The 22-year-old Borussia Dortmund man got his first taste of World Cup action
as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win against the South Americans and won
praise from coach Rudi Voller.
"He brought discipline and security into the game," Voller said of Kehl, who
came on for Hertha Berlin's Marko Rehmer.
Kehl, who has nine international caps, is hoping to stay in the side, but he
knows he may have to settle for a place on the bench with Carsten Ramelow,
Dietmar Hamann and Christian Ziege all set to return.
"Of course I really would like to play another match," said Kehl.
"But you have to be realistic. For the quarter-final three experienced
players come back into the team."
Voller has stressed that he will take his time before making any decisions
regarding his starting line-up for the clash with the United States.
He added: "It is a long time until Friday. First of all, the players should
rejuvenate themselves and then we will think calmly about how we are going to
play in the quarter-final."
It will be the seventh match between Germany and the USA when the two teams
meet in Ulsan.
So far Germany have won four and the Americans have recorded two victories.
The last clash was only three months ago in March when Germany won 4-2 in
Rostock.
