Soderberg & Lagerback - will not be quitting
SWEDISH COACHES PLEDGE TO CONTINUE
Sweden's football chiefs have insisted
coaches Lars Lagerback and Tommy Soderberg will remain in charge for the
forthcoming 2004 European Championship qualification campaign.
Soderberg and Lagerback had said they thought of quitting after the shock 2-1
defeat to debutantes Senegal in the secon dround of the World Cup.
The Swedes had toped the 'Group of Death' in Japan and Korea with England,
Argentina and Nigeria, and were expected to reach the last eight.
But a golden goal by Henri Camara meant they were returning home earlier than
hoped.
Lagerback had earlier said in newspaper Dagens Nyheter that he was thinking
about quitting after their surprise World Cup exit.
But he told TT television on Monday: "I have never broken a contract and I will
work for Sweden for two more years."
Bengt Madsen, vice chairman of the Swedish Football Association, added: "We
have full confidence for Lagerback and Soderberg.
"And when Sweden starts the qualification for European Championship 2004,
September 7 in Latvia, it will with Lagerback and Soderberg on the bench."
