Belgium striker Marc Wilmots has had a swipe
at his country's media after the team qualified for the second round of the
World Cup.
The Schalke star has scored in every game for Belgium, who have progressed
from Group H despite huge criticism of coach Robert Waseige and the team by the
Belgian press.
"In football the truth lies on the pitch. And not in the papers. I am happy
for the coach that we have replied to all the negative comments," he said.
The man known in his home land as the Flying Boar has been in excellent form,
with crucial strikes in the 2-2 draw with Japan, 1-1 draw against Tunisia and
the qualification-clinching 3-2 win over Russia.
"To win against Russia, a big football nation, is a real boost for Belgian
football," he said.
Meanwhile, Belgian FA president Jan Peeters has hailed the team's result
against Russia as a fulfilment of its goals.
"I am a happy man. In a hard-fought game the Belgian team never panicked. We
have reached our goal - a place in the last 16."
He also paid tribute to the style showed by the team in the win: "We finally
saw the football that we know of the national team."
