Turkey coach Senol Gunes has warned his players to beware of co-hosts Japan when the two sides meet in their second round clash on Tuesday.

Gunes is well aware of Japanese strengths after they topped Group H and knows that his team will have to be on top form to book a quarter final place.

"Japan are playing a good football since the start of the tournament," said Gunes.

"They are young and like to run and they have used their home advantage well.

"Japan are playing with players who didn't come out of a very tiring league season.

"We don't think of ourselves as favourites but we have the strength to beat Japan," he added.

"Playing in the knockout phase gives us the edge because we have some experience of this style and Japan doesn't.

"We have to use this experience and we have to stay calm."

Gunes admitted that injured striker Hakan Sukur and goalkeeper Rustu Recber will have late fitness tests before the clash.

Hasan Sas and \mit Davala have also been suffering from thigh problems and Nihat Kahveci has complained of a stomach problem, and all trained separately from the rest of the team.
