Costa Rica may have been knocked out of the World
Cup but they are still in Korea because no-one thought to confirm their flight
home.
After a win in their first match against China and a hard-fought draw with
Turkey in the second game, they had high hopes of going through to the second
round.
However, a 5-2 hammering by Brazil and Turkey's 3-0 win over China meant the
Central Americans had to pack their bags - only to find there were no flights
available.
Late on Friday afternoon it was reported that some of the Costa Rican players had
managed to book seats to the United States where they hoped to pick up a
connecting flights home.
Others are not expected to get away until Sunday at the earliest.
Coach coach Alexandre Guimaraes has decided to stay on for a while, but he's
upset with the Costa Rican Football Federation because they have not offered to
renew his contract.
The contract officially ended with the team's elimination from the World Cup,
so he is technically unemployed.
