Former Sweden skipper Glenn Hysen has hit out
at present captain Patrik Andersson's decision to leave the Far East through
injury.
Andersson has been ruled out of the World Cup after damaging a thigh the day
before Sweden's opening Group F clash with England.
Now he is set to return to Spain to link up with club side Barcelona and begin
his rehabilitation ahead of the new domestic season.
But Hysen is adamant that the mainstay of the Swedish defence should have
remained with his team-mates as they prepare for an assault on the knockout
stage.
"I would never have done what Patrik is now doing," said Hysen, who
skippered his country between 1989 and 1992.
"As team captain you have a responsibility and if I had been in Patrik's
shoes I would have stayed," he told daily newspaper Aftonbladet.
Andersson, meanwhile, has claimed that the decision to leave is not his own
and lies with the Catalans.
"The most important thing now is that I'm fit and ready for the Primera
Liga," he said.
