Sweden international Patrik Andersson will be sent
home from the World Cup after failing to recover from a thigh injury.
The Barcelona defender, 30, will return to the Catalan capital after missing
all three group games.
Sweden's defensive excellence without Andersson has been a surprise, the
player having been deemed crucial for the World Cup.
The Scandinavians conceded just three goals on their way to finishing top of
the 'Group of Death' ahead of England, Argentina and Nigeria.
Andreas Jakobsson, who deputised as Sweden finished top of a group also
featuring Argentina and England, will continue in central defence.
Sweden play Senegal on June 16 in Oita for a place in the quarter-finals of
the World Cup.
