Portugal admit they instantly lost their World
Cup cockiness along with their opening match of the 2002 campaign.
And veteran midfielder Sergio Conceicao is adamant they won't make that
mistake again.
The Portuguese crashed 3-2 to the United States in their Group D opener, but
redeemed themselves with a 4-0 thrashing of Poland in their next outing.
Now they must beat co-hosts South Korea on Friday to guarantee themselves a
place in the second round.
"The defeat by the USA was an accident, but also a good lesson," the Inter
Milan midfielder with 41 Portuguese caps said.
"We went onto the pitch too sure of ourselves ... no-one is favourite if they
don't show it on the pitch.
"Me and my team-mates really felt the criticism, which was very harsh.
"But we weren't eliminated after one defeat and now with the victory over
Poland we have still not qualified."
Nevertheless, Conceicao, speaking at a Portugal press conference, said the
team's confidence was "sky high".
"The game against South Korea will be our moment of truth," he said.
"We are approaching the game with a great desire to win and we have to win in
order not to depend on the results of the other teams.
"It will be a battle on the pitch, I'm sure it will be a spectacular match.
Our morale is sky high and this will be an advantage.
