France's fallen World Cup footballers returned to
a mixed reception as they flew back in to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris on Wednesday.
The players, whose campaign in Japan and Korea sensationally failed at the
first hurdle, arrived back in France at 1750 local time on Wednesday night where they
greeted by a crowd of around 200 people.
Some of those gathered booed the players while others called for the head of
coach Roger Lemerre and France Football Federation (FFF) president Claude
Simonet after seeing Les Bleus finish bottom of Group A without a single goal
from games against Denmark, Senegal and Uruguay.
Other fans were more supportive of their heroes, who were crowned world
champions on home soil four years ago, singing French national anthem 'La
Marseillaise'.
Gerard Ernault, an FFF director, said: "We were expecting a lot of people to
turn up.
"People can express themselves, we live in a democracy. It is understandable
that people are disappointed, it's part of the game.
"We have to bounce back," he added.
"I truly believe that the French team will remain popular despite the
setback."
