Costa Rica coach Alexander Guimaraes believes
his team's final group match against Brazil on Thursday will be an exciting and
entertaining affair but is also confident his charges can do enough to qualify
for the next round.
Costa Rica will guarantee their place in the next round with a win or a draw,
and would even finish ahead of Brazil if they pulled off a two-goal victory.
"The Brazilians, like us, like to play good football, which is the reason why
I expect a pretty spectacle," Guimaraes told the Nacion newspaper.
"We know what Brazil represents, but we have an enormous desire to obtain our
objectives, and that does not finish with the game against Brazil. We want to
go beyond that."
Costa Rica are hoping for a measure of delayed revenge after the Brazilians
beat them 1-0 in the group stage in the 1990 World Cup courtesy of a goal by
Muller, although both teams eventually qualified.
