Belgium coach Robert Waseige has lost the respect of his players after their stuttering start to the World Cup, according to reports in the Belgian press.

Waseige, who has already stated he will quit to take over at Standard Liege after the World Cup, has come under heavy criticism for his player selection and tactics after the Belgians have struggled to disappointing draws in their first two matches against Japan and Tunisia.

Belgium lie third in Group H, one point adrift of second-placed Russia and go into their final game against the Russians needing a win.

But morale in the camp is said to have hit an all-time low, with only captain Mark Wilmots prepared to stand by Waseige.

"Waseige has lost all authority," stated Francois Colin, the chief sports writer of Flemish daily Het Nieuwsblad in Wednesday's edition.

"The players feel as if they are being treated like children. The coach doesn't tolerate any remarks, and ignores the opinion of internationally experienced players.

"He is 10 times more negative than the press."

Wilmots is expected to get the players together for a meeting on Friday but now his authority is questioned due to his support of Waseige.
