Argentina defender Juan Pablo Sorin sobbed in
despair over the forlorn World Cup hopes of a desolate team and a
destitute nation.
Asked to explain Argentina's stunningly early exit from the tournament, the
Brazil-based Sorin struggled to hold his emotions in check, but the effort
proved too much.
"We and the whole Argentine people had a very big illusion of becoming world
champions, but we missed it," he said in a television interview broadcast in
Argentina.
That was all. Overcome by tears, he excused himself and left.
Valencia midfielder Kily Gonzalez also tried to make sense of Argentina's
early exit, but couldn't.
"What happened is incredible," he said.
"We can say a lot of things, but it is useless. We are out of the World
Cup!"
