Coach Jerzy Engel is prepared to face the music for Poland's early World Cup exit.

The Poles, playing at the first finals since Mexico 1986, will be flying home at the end of the group games after disappointing defeats by Korea and Portugal.

Engel can expected mass criticism from the country's media when he returns.

The performances against the joint-hosts and the Portuguese were poor at best, especially after such a convincing qualifying campaign.

But the 49-year-old is ready to face the music when the squad departs home after their final group against the United States.

He said: "Trainers are always prepared for the critics. We are sitting on a volcano, but I don't worry about it."

Engel has also defended his tactics, while the Polish media have slated his defensive and negative approach.

He added: "I've been working as a trainer from 24 years and I know how to do it.

"My players were doing everything that I told them to do. If we had scored first in the games the mental strength would be at a higher level."
